BBC Bargain Hunt's Roo Irvine shares 'exciting news' in huge career move

Roo Irvine announces she'll be joining Lomond Radio

BBC Bargain Hunt favourite Roo Irvine has announced she is branching out from antiques and into music. The Scottish presenter took to her Instagram to share the news with her 10.1k followers.

In a video clip, she appeared to be standing on a balcony or rooftop as the roofs of houses could be seen below her. She commented on how much she loved the birdsong at dusk before sharing her exciting update.

"I have a bit of good news for me, I don't know if it's good news for you. I'm so excited to announce that I'm joining Lomond Radio as one of their presenters.

"I cannot wait because it's been a community radio [station] since Covid. It's a fabulous, warm, friendly team and a radio station that keeps it real. I'm going to have my own two-hour show every month," she said.

"It's coming to you soon and it's all about Roo's rhythms and why we love music, what it means to us a story, the power, the passion, the emotion behind it. And music often can be attributed to the person we are today," she pondered.

"We all have songs that take us back to a certain time. And songs that can bring us back to the here and now. So if you love music, and the story behind it and you want to lose yourself for two hours then please do tune into my show," she implored.

Revealing that it will run from 10pm to midnight she continued: "It will be the last thing you hear hopefully, before you go to bed.

"Not that it is gonna put you to sleep, but it'll put you in the right frame of mind. You'll have the sweetest musical dreams," she promised.

While it might seem a bit of a departure for the antiques expert, Roo confessed that this has been a long-time ambition of hers.

"I'm so excited. I've wanted to do radio ever since I was a kid, and I first heard music. I'd be in my bedroom every night pretending I was a radio presenter because that's what music does to me.

"You connect with the world out there through music and that's what I would love to do," she confessed.

While she didn't reveal the date of her debut, she did promise that more details would follow.

Roo shot to fame in 2019 when she joined Bargain Hunt as one of the experts and has gone on to work on several BBC shows.

Bargain Hunt is on BBC One daily at 12.15pm with previous episodes available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
