GMB's Laura Tobin issues five-word response as Richard Madeley asks her about weight loss

GMB: Richard asks Laura if she's lost weight

During the latest instalment of the show was debating whether or not it’s ever ok to comment on people’s weight. The discussion comes after Barbra Streisand came under fire for asking Melissa McCarthy if she was taking Ozempic.

As hosts and drew the debate to a close, they were about to hand over to weather presenter . However, Richard couldn’t help but cheekily ask her the question they’d been discussing.

He quipped: “Have you lost weight Laura?”. She simply replied: “Not after the big cake," before explaining a colleague from the makeup department had baked a treat for them all.

“Not after the big cake that Lisa in makeup has made that I’m about to scoff after this weather, no," the star admitted.

However, it seemed as though the 42-year-old wasn’t offended by the jibe, as she gave a light laugh after being asked. However, it seems as though the debate has caused mixed reactions with viewers.

Not finding an issue with the question, @RyansG1rl02 wrote: “No, of course it isn't. A compliment on someone's weight loss can be a real confidence boost, that what you are doing to lose the weight is working, and you keep doing it.”

With @ErinDell7 tweeting: “Personally I don't think it is at all, I'm going from experience when I had a friend ask me I looked different and was it cause I lost weight, it made my day, it gave me the confidence to carry on dieting and I feel so much better in myself now than when I did before.”

However, there were some people who believed nobody should comment on someone else’s weight.

@Katy_mo wrote: “It's 2024 and we're still commenting on other people's bodies? Why?”

@Ripleynoms added: “What if someone has lost weight because they are ill? Cancer perhaps? Could be very upsetting.”

With @FlopsyPickle commenting: “Why can’t people just say ‘oh you look great!’? Why does anyone need to bring someone’s weight into things? You don’t know if a person has lost weight because they’re ill or have an eating disorder etc #gmb #GoodMorningBritain.”

Speaking about the topic on the show, guests Ryan-Mark Parsons and Lewis Oakley had differing opinions on addressing someone’s weight.

Lewis said: “I just think you can say to someone, ‘You look great’. Then we’re not bringing their weight into it. Also, why is weight a big topic?”

Interjecting, Richard told the guest weight is a huge talking topic, as it’s a multi-billion dollar industry.

He replied: “It’s a global fetish, that’s why!”

Although Lewis added that he understood Richard’s point, he continued: “I think people putting that out there and commenting on people's weight, it’s just not what we should be doing.”

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
