BBC Breakfast viewers say 'shame' as they spot major blunder during Strictly segment

Strictly: Toyah says show has been 'best experience'

BBC Breakfast viewers were quick to point out a major blunder during Saturday morning's episode (September 21).

Presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty had just introduced a segment on Strictly Come Dancing which followed reporter David Sillito as he caught up with the contestants ahead of tonight's show.

Among the couples he chatted to were Toyah Willcox and her dance partner Neil Jones. Sillito began with a question about whether or not the star had any "qualms" about joining the show amid allegations of bullying.

"Strictly's been in the news over the last few months. Did you have any qualms when you said yes?" he asked.

"I'm very sorry that people have had a negative experience," Toyah started. "All I can say so far: this has been the best experience of my life. We are being looked after beautifully."

While the interview went smoothly, eagle-eyed fans spotted that Toyah's name was spelled wrong in the banner that appeared on top of the interview. Instead of Toyah Willcox, it read Toyah Wilcox.

"Nice to see the item on Strictly Come Dancing. Shame the BBC got Toyah’s name mispelled," wrote one disgruntled viewer.

The segment later returned to Toyah and her motivations for taking to the Strictly dance floor. The singer and actress has enjoyed a 45-year career in the spotlight and said she wanted to prove age was no barrier.

"I feel young, I don't feel old and I think people want to feel that way. That's why I'm doing it, to say 'Look I'm a pensioner, if I can do it, you can do it.'"

BBC Breakfast airs every day from 6am on BBC One and BBC News 24
