Escape to the Country expert issues stern warning to couple over mystery house

Escape to the Country: Nicki Chapman outlines ‘biggest mistakes’

During the latest repeat episode of Escape to the Country, BBC fans learned that couple Cris and Stewart had decided to up and leave London after 26 years for a quieter pace of life.

Wanting to be closer to family, the duo were on the hunt for a four-bedroom property in the Scottish Lothians with a maximum budget of £475,000. With expert Nicki Chapman on board to help them in their search, she took them to three potential homes.

However, it was the last mystery house in Coldingham that blew Cris and Stewart away instantly. Walking up the driveway, Stewart quipped: “Now you’re talking.”

She replied: “I wish I could just take a snapshot of your faces as you came up the drive there! Isn’t it incredible?”. Agreeing, Stewart told Nicki that it was their type of house as they seemed quite speechless over it.

As they entered, Cris was in awe of the grand hallway as he excitedly quipped: “This is exactly what we want. It’s got character, it’s got detail. This is beautiful, I love it.”

Admitting the home ticked all of the boxes they were looking for, the duo decided to explore more of the property.

While travelling around the seven-bedroom home, which was set across three floors, their excitement didn’t waiver at all.

Cris said: “I love it, it’s perfect for us. This is like our forever home, I feel it. I feel really comfortable here.”

Agreeing, his husband stated it was everything that they’d been looking for as they told Nicki they were highly interested.

When she revealed the house was on the market for offers over £325,000, they were floored.

However, she warned: “But, we’re not going to do a little dance as yet because as you can imagine, at that price, it’s gotten an awful lot of interest.

“So, that’s what you’ve got to think about. I think it’s safe for me to say that house won’t be sold at £325,000. But, that is what it’s on the market for, offers over.

“You are going to have to move very quickly on this one.”
