Fans of BBC Breakfast moaned as a special report took up more than 20 minutes of air time on today's epsiode (December 22). The show aired a segment about the upcoming Gavin & Stacey Christmas special.

It has been more than five years since the much-loved sitcom last appeared on screens, but it will be back on Christmas day with the finale episide. Fans are expecting to see the love story between Smithy and Nessa finally unfold and to find out what really happened on the infamous fishing trip between Jason and Uncle Bryn.

Welsh reporter Stefan Powell hosted the segment as he spoke to people who had been cast in smaller roles in the past on the sitcom and what the show's epic return meant for them.

An extra, Gillian Elisa, who took on the role of 'Lingerie Lady' in an episode of the BBC sitcom appeared to talk about her day on set. In the scenes that she filmed, Nessa (played by Ruth Jones) appeared in suspenders and stocking as she tried to shop for some sexy undies.

Gillian shared with BBC Breakfast: "I hadn't seen Ruth in her costume until the take, which I think is a good idea. I think that's where she shines - she wants to get that first take."

The actress explained that Ruth does things this way to get the most genuine reaction but she had struggled to hold back the laughter. She said: "I could hardly breathe! I took in a little bit of a breathe and wanted to laugh, but she looked amazing actually."

She continued: "I love having a good laugh though. And so does Ruth."

Speaking about what it's like to be on set, the extra shared: "It's been an absolute pleasure to be a part of Gavin & Stacey because the atmosphere in the series is terrific. I don't think I've ever been on a series where people are so happy and joyous and lots of fun."

The segment went on to see the Welsh reporter chat to several more extras, taking up 20 minutes worth of BBC Breakfast's time - much to the annoyance of fans at home.

Complaining on X (formerly Twitter), one user wrote: "Gavin & Stacy [sic].... on TV for one hour and been hyped & promoted by BBC for total of 10 hours #bbcbreakfast."

Another cheekily quipped: "#BBCBreakfast Does anyone know if Gavin and Stacey is on this Christmas?"

Meanwhile, a third added: "Dr Who, Sherlock, Blinders, Midwife, Strictly, & now Gavin & Stacy. The BBC really know how to milk their occasional hit shows while annoying the hell out of their viewers. Don’t know how the likes of #BBCBreakfast would survive without them."
