Nivada Grenchen Launches an Expedition-Ready Antarctic GMT Watch

For Nivada Gretchen’s latest unveiling, the independent watch has brought back a rare Antarctic GMT model from its archives.

A faithful homage to the original, the new reference exudes vintage appeal, with many of its design cues being borrowed from the ’60s and ‘70s. Touted by its maker as being “expedition-ready,” the timepiece arrives in an EPSA-developed watch case, which is best known for its patented “Super-Compressor” technology that leverages water pressure at depth to compress the case against its gasket.

The matte black dial is paired with a two-tone GMT ring, adorned with lume-filled applied indices and baton-style hands. The timepiece is also geared with two crowns, one to control the 24-hour bezel while the other enables adjustments for the watch’s settings.

Beating at the core of the 36mm watch is the SOPROD GMT movement, which comes with 42 hours of power reserve. Similar to previous reimaginings of the Antarctic series, the caseback spotlights a gold medallion emblem with a penguin as a nod to the model’s heritage.

Prices start from $1,600 USD, the new Antarctic GMT is offered in three different straps, including a “Beads of Rice” steel bracelet and brown or black leather straps. In addition, Nivada Grenchen will also release a 99-piece-limited-edition Tropical variant.
