Drones to precede National Day fireworks show

A five minute-drone show, featuring about 600 drones forming patterns of pandas and the number “75”, will precede the National Day fireworks display, according to the production company behind the extravaganza. Following the drone show, the 23-minute fireworks display, involving 31,888 firing shells, will commence over the skies above Victoria Harbour. The theme for this year’s display will be: “The splendid fireworks shine over the prosperous China”, featuring eight distinct scenes designed to symbolise elements like joy, unity and a prosperous future. One highlight of the show will be a panda-themed scene that features green-colour fireworks. “Scene six is Kung Fu Fighting. Basically this scene is all about pandas. We have two newborn babies, we have two gifted pandas from mainland China, and we have two local pandas. So there are a total of six. This is a tremendous joy for Hong Kong, because there's never been so many new lives in Hong Kong,” says Wilson Mao, a representative from Pyromagic Multimedia Productions. “And we have a lot of green bamboo gimmicks for this scene, and a lot of movements for the panda to move across the green bamboo to simulate their actions, that they live very happily in Hong Kong.” The fireworks display is estimated to cost about HK$18 million, similar to last year. Besides the fireworks display, the government also plans to organise hundreds of activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, including a large-scale drone show on the night before National Day.
