Vera's Brenda Blethyn and ITV cast spotted at two locations as fans on 'lookout'

Vera's Brenda Blethyn spotted on Blyth Beach in Northumberland as fans on 'lookout' for ITV stars Vera fans were put on high alert on Monday, as she and other cast members from the hit show were spotted at two different locations.

Having played no-nonsense sleuth DCI Vera Stanhope for 13 years, Brenda is now stepping back in front of the camera for a final time as her legendary alter ego, with it being confirmed last week that the two new feature-length episodes will be the show's last.

In 2025, 14 years after it made its debut on ITV, with a pilot that starred a young Sam Fender, Vera will come to an end, with lead star Brenda admitting she was 'sad' at saying farewell to a character who has become adored by people across the world.

Having reunited for a script read-through seven days earlier, the Vera cast was on set to shoot scenes for series 14 on Monday, with Brenda and returning sidekick David Leon, who made a shock return to the Northumberland and City Police fold in series 13, seen along with crew at Cambois.

Ibinabo Jack, who plays DC Jacqueline Williams, in Vera addressed Brenda's exit from the series on BBC Breakfast last week.

She said Brenda's a "formidable actress" and admitted with sadness that she could not believe the long-running crime drama was "coming to an end".

Meanwhile, Graeme Thompson, the chair of The Royal Television Society, added: "It's interesting that David Leon, who is one of the main characters in Vera, came back to the show after he left and he directed an episode.

"It has been a fantastic opportunity for talent in the northeast of England to show what they can do and that's actors as well as tech talent."

Vera episodes are available to watch on ITVX.
