BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty's hackles were raised after a throwaway comment sparked tensions in the newsroom, with the suggestion that she "didn't listen" to weather lady Carol Kirkwood. She and Mike Bushell had been been discussing tennis prodigy Emma Raducanu's performance after she crashed out of the Madrid Open in the first round.

Sharing that the 21-year-old has been left "mentally and physically exhausted", he added: "I'm not putting pressure, there's no pressure from me. She won't listen to me anyway." "You never know. Do you think Carol listens to us?" Naga chuckled.

However, Mike struck a blow with his jokey response, quipping: "Well, not you. I always listen to Carol, every word." Giving him an icy glare, Naga interrupted to quiz: "Pardon? What did you say?"

As she stared in his direction, refusing to back down, he replied: "Well, I said, 'Not you'. It was a joke. I mean, you can ask Carol yourself." Co-star Charlie Stayt, who was seated beside Naga on the famous red sofa, attempted to diffuse the tension between the two, as he quizzed: "Where is Carol? Let's find Carol. Let's find out?"

However, Naga hadn't finished with her prey yet, as she repeated to Mike: "What did you say?" Mike appealed for Carol to help, but she made it clear she had no intention of getting involved in the spat.

Mike exclaimed: "How long is that stare going to last for, Naga? I've got the Naga stare, Carol!"

Yet Carol just giggled, and rather than rescuing Mike, declared: "I am so keeping out of this altogether."

Viewers were equally amused, as one took to Twitter to joke: "Naga looked ready to lamp him!"

Another chuckled: "I'd hate to be Mike right about now!"

Naga is renowned for not backing down when it comes to tackling her co-stars, also challenging Ben Thompson recently over "mockery" of her.

She'd taken the opportunity to type some text on her laptop while on camera, causing her curious co-star to quiz: "What are you doing?"

Viewers were in stitches as he jokily speculated about whether she was writing a book in the middle of the show.Naga shot back: "What's wrong with you?
