The Reds are trimming down a list of potential candidates for the Anfield job for next season. Surprisingly, it seems that Ruben Amorim will not replace Klopp. The Portuguese coach has been linked with a switch from Sporting CP to West Ham.

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has already ruled himself out of taking the position, or the role at Bayern Munich which will become vacant when Thomas Tuchel steps aside at the end of this term. Alonso will continue at Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen for at least another season.

Fellow reported candidate Julian Nagelsmann has signed a new deal to remain as the national team head coach of Germany. Liverpool are therefore running out of possible managers who may be readily available over the summer.

Despite that, The Athletic report that Wolves boss O’Neil is not being considered. The former midfielder was considered to have an outside chance of succeeding Klopp after winning admirers in his first season with the Black Country club.

O'Neil was appointed in the days before Wolves started their 2023-24 campaign with a 1-0 defeat against Manchester United on August 14. They were widely tipped as candidates for relegation after a chaotic summer in which Julen Lopetegui resigned a week before the trip to Old Trafford.

But former the Bournemouth boss O'Neil has exceeded expectations by lifting them into 11th in the Premier League, sitting on an extremely healthy 43 points. The highly-rated 40-year-old has won praise for his team's style of play in the process.
