Ruben Amorim believes Marcus Rashford is being negatively influenced by the people around him, having accused them of making decisions which are not in his best interests.

The forward has not played for Manchester United since expressing his desire to leave and take on a 'new challenge' elsewhere. He made the revelation in an interview with journalist Henry Winter after being left of the squad for the Manchester derby.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim suggested that Rashford's team may have played a major role in convincing him to go public with his desire to leave Old Trafford.

"Of course it is a hard situation, but I understand that this kind of player, they have a lot of people around them making some choices that are sometimes not the first idea from the player," said Amorim.

"So I understand, I can separate things. I am always here for helping Marcus as another player and they have to do what they have to do. I say they chose to do that interview, because it’s not just Marcus, and I understand that."

Amorim went on to insist that he wants Rashford to stay at United, calling him a 'talented guy' and explaining that his qualities are needed by the team.

"As a coach, I am just focused on the performance, the way he trains," added the Portuguese boss. "And the rest, I think it is better for me and the club to deal with that when the time comes.

"At the moment, I am just focused on improving Marcus. We need a lot in this moment the talented guys like Marcus and I forget for now the interview. I just see what I see on the pitch."

It remains to be seen if Rashford has already played his last game for United, with his immediate future at Old Trafford highly uncertain.

Gary Neville believes the England forward will almost certainly leave in the January window, suggesting that his continued absence from matchday squads is a sign that something is seriously wrong.

"It was a surprise last weekend, but I think obviously now it’s getting to a point whereby you leave him out three games on the bounce, something really is going wrong or has gone wrong," Neville told Sky Sports over the weekend.

“It’s not looking great for both Marcus’ future at the club and United keeping him, either. I suspect it’s getting to that point in the journey where it looks like it’s got an inevitable ending."
