Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has stated that he is in no hurry to decide his future with the club. The Reds' captain revealed that there has been no progress on a new contract offer as he enters the last six months of his current deal.

Van Dijk, along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs from next week, potentially signalling a summer of change at Anfield.

However, the 33-year-old Dutchman remains unfazed by the situation, stating his full focus is on maintaining their position at the top of the Premier League.

"There is no deadline at all," Van Dijk said. "I'll see what the future holds. I focus fully on Leicester."

Arne Slot's team will face the Foxes on Boxing Day, leading by four points and with a game in hand following their impressive attacking display against Tottenham on Sunday. Salah moved up to fourth on Liverpool's all-time goalscoring list with two goals.

After providing two more assists in a 6-3 victory where Liverpool could have easily scored double, Van Dijk praised: "His numbers speak for themselves.

"He's a very special athlete. He's done amazingly for the club and hopefully he can play his best season ever for the club, stay important with his goals and assists."

"We always need a complete performance from him because all the defensive work that he can put in as well is very important for us as the last line."

However, when asked if Salah will be able to replicate his performance next season, Van Dijk simply replied: "I don't know."

The skipper has warned against complacency as the Reds top the Premier League at Christmas, a position they've held seven times since the league's inception in 1992.

Despite their strong standing, Van Dijk remains cautious: "We've been there, we've done it. We've lost twice in very small margins. The key is to take it game by game.

"Going top of the league at Christmas will make Christmas nice for all of the Reds around the world. But we want to be there in May as well."
