Outnumbered Christmas special: Official trailer

Outnumbered fans were left disheartened by an unexpected detail revealed just seconds into the new festive special for 2024.

Eight years on from the last special in 2016, the Brockmans are back on our screens attempting to have a traditional family Christmas, but Pete (portrayed by Hugh Dennis) is faced with the distressing task of revealing his cancer diagnosis.

While his wife Sue (Claire Skinner) tries to keep the festive spirit alive, their three adult children, Jake (Tyger Drew-Honey), Ben (Daniel Roche) and Karen (Ramona Marquez) are dealing with issues of their own.

However, viewers were distracted in the opening moments as it was unveiled that Pete and Sue had relocated since we last saw them.

"IM SO SAD THEY MOVED HOUSE OMG," one viewer expressed on X (formerly Twitter), reports the Mirror.

"Thought the Outnumbered special episode was going to be happy and nostalgic but they've moved house and Pete is dying," another viewer wrote.

A different person responded: "What do you mean they MOVED in outnumbered I don't like it."

"Right. Nah. Why have they moved house," read another disgruntled tweet.

"They moved, I don't like it!" another viewer exclaimed, adding a laughing emoji.

"The kids have kids, they've got a new house and Pete's got cancer. I can't cope," a final fan commented.

The Brockmans' move was evident within the very first seconds of the episode, which took place outside their home on a completely different street.

Amidst a backdrop tinged with dark humour, the much-anticipated comeback of Outnumbered delivered its fair share of chuckles.

The BBC released an official statement: "In a moment of adversity, Sue and Pete gather all their offspring, including one grandchild, to try to celebrate a traditional family Christmas."

Speculation is rife that this new gathering on BBC One could spell further comedic ventures for the Brockman clan.

Outnumbered’s Christmas Special 2024 is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
