The upcoming Netflix mini-series Senna will share the life and career of the iconic Brazilian racing driver, Ayrton Senna, and his rise to Formula 1 glory.

Ayrton Senna began his journey in Formula Ford before progressing to Formula Three and later competing for Toleman, Lotus, McLaren and Williams in F1.

Before his fatal crash at the 1994 Imola GP, Senna had clinched three F1 World Championships and amassed 41 wins, 65 pole positions, 19 fastest laps and 80 podiums.

In his homeland Brazil, Senna was known as a national hero who generously donated millions to charity and was loved by millions. His death in 1994 sparked days of national mourning and he is commemorated as one of the greatest racing drivers ever.

The forthcoming Netflix series aims to cover his life story, dramatise his racing career and success, as well as his personal life. Here's everything you need to know about Senna, including its plot, trailer, cast and what to anticipate.

What is the storyline of Senna?

Gabriel Leone takes on the role of the Brazilian driver who caught the eye of F1's elite and eventually the world. The series narrates the tale of Senna's racing career, his rivalries, championship victories as well as his personal life and relationships.

Senna covers the three-time Formula 1 champion's motor racing career, including when he relocates to England to compete in Formula Ford, and continues up until his fatal accident during the Imola Grand Prix.

A synopsis from Netflix reads: "The six-episode series will showcase Senna's journey of triumphs, disappointments, joys, and sorrows, unveiling his personality and personal relationships.

"It begins with the start of the three-time Formula 1 champion's motor racing career, when he moves to England to compete in Formula Ford, and continues up until his fatal accident in Imola, Italy, during the San Marino Grand Prix."

When is Senna released and how many episodes are there?

Senna will be released in full on Netflix on Friday, November 29.

There are six episodes in the mini-series with each episode varying in episode length from 58 to 71 minutes.

Who is in the cast of Senna?

Taking the wheel as the iconic Brazilian racer Senna is Gabriel Leone, with Pamela Tome portraying his glamorous TV star girlfriend Xuxa, Matt Mella stepping into the shoes of adversary Alain Prost, Patrick Kennedy embodying McLaren team principal Ron Dennis and Gabriel Louchard narrating the race as Brazilian sports commentator Galvao Bueno.

Other notable performers transforming into real-life characters include Alice Wegmann as Lilian de Vasconcelos, Senna's first wife; Camila Mardila playing his sister Viviane Senna; Christian Malheiros as his pal Maurinho; Hugo Bonemer taking on Nelson Piquet; Julia Foti as Adriane Galisteu; Marco Ricca as "Miltao" Senna, his father; and Susana Ribeiro as Neide "Zaza" Senna, his mother.

The cast also features Kaya Scodelario as a fictional journalist, Laura, Arnaud Viard as Jean-Marie Balestre, Joe Hurst as Keith Sutton, Johannes Heinrichs as Niki Lauda, Keisuke Hoashi as Osamu Goto, Leon Ockenden as James Hunt, Richard Clothier as Peter Warr, Steven Mackintosh as Frank Williams, and Tom Mannion as Sid Watkins.
