BBC Shetland recently returned to our TV screens for its ninth season however just a few episodes in viewers have claimed to be 'struggling' to get into the series as they say it's going 'downhill'.

The crime drama follows DI Ruth Calder and DI 'Tosh' McIntosh as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of Tosh's friend, Annie Bett.

Annie's sudden disappearance set alarm bells through the village and things took a sickening turn when her body was found at a construction site owned by her estranged husband Ian, alongside another casualty, Anton Bergen.

Her son Noah, narrowly escaped the deadly scene and he may be the only one who can help solve the mystery as he might have witnessed his mother's death.

During tonight's (November 20) episode, Calder and Tosh attempted to track through Annie's past however it was proving to be a lot harder than they had hoped.

Later on a group of locals gathered at a pub but things quickly became awkward when Tosh arrived as she received a frosty welcome from everyone.

She had sparked anger among the locals and her partner Donnie after arresting Annie's estranged husband Ian. Ian was later released after Joni, one of Annie's friends, dropped a major bombshell and informed Tosh that they were together the night Annie died because they had been having an affair. The lab results also proved that the blood on Ian's shirt was not Annie's.

Meanwhile Calder found herself becoming attached to Annie's young son Noah. The young boy has been suffering from panic attacks and has remained mute following his mum's murder.

Despite Noah being met with silence, the detective has been trying to get as much information to help solve the murder.
