Mercedes-Benz Mourns the Loss

Bruno Sacco, the visionary designer behind some of Mercedes-Benz's most iconic vehicles, passed away on September 19, 2024, at the age of 90 in Sindelfingen. Born in Udine, Italy, Sacco was the Chief Designer for Mercedes-Benz from 1975 until his retirement in 1999. During his career, he shaped the design language of the brand, leaving an indelible mark on the automotive world.

Sacco was particularly proud of his work on the S-Class (model series 126) and other models like the E-Class (series 124) and the Mercedes-Benz 190 (W 201). His design philosophy emphasized timeless elegance and maintaining a consistent brand identity across generations, with vehicles remaining recognizable as Mercedes-Benz no matter their model year.

Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Marcus Breitschwerdt, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Heritage GmbH, paid tribute to Sacco, praising his contributions to automotive aesthetics and the enduring impact of his work. Sacco’s career spanned over four decades, during which he designed and influenced the creation of numerous Mercedes-Benz models that are still admired today.
