Maison Margiela Unveils First-Ever Lunar New Year Collection
While the fashion world ponders Maison Margiela's future in the wake of John Galliano's departure, the Parisian fashion house is keeping busy: on Friday, the blueprint-making brand put out its first-ever Lunar New Year collection, a three-piece lineup inspired by the theme of "The Renewal" and celebrating the Year of the Snake.
Margiela's spirited capsule looks to capture the lunar transformations and weave its "auspicious symbolism with the profound ties between vision and reality, moon and earth, dreams and the passage of time."
In mode, the line includes a hooded sweatshirt, a T-shirt and a printed silk scarf. The hoodie and the T-shirt, in creme and white hues, respectively, are printed with a simple "Renewal" graphic across the chest, which depicts the changing lunar phases around a full moon embroidered with the Chinese character for "snake."
The silk scarf, meanwhile, takes cues from the famous board game, Snakes and Ladders. The border is dotted with the moon's different phases, while the center of the thematic design sees several serpent illustrations winding across and ascending colorful ladders.
Maison Margiela's Lunar New Year collection is now available to shop online and in the brand's boutiques. Take a look at the lineup in the gallery above.
