is coming to his friends’ defense after claiming they’ve been attacked online following his split from .

“All of you f—in weird couch warriors attacking and belittling my friends on the internet because you’re assuming I have a girlfriend are weird as hell and should be studied for science,” Bryan, 28, wrote via a lengthy Instagram Story rant on Thursday, January 9. “Everyone wonders why I quit touring and don’t want to be attached to music anymore, meanwhile you’re calling my friends ugly and harassing them?”

Bryan added that he wasn’t searching for “sympathy” but wanted to condemn the “low and messed up” actions of going after his pals.

“Apparently I’ve [had] four different girlfriends in like two weeks, meanwhile my friends and me are just laughing and hanging out like we always have,” he wrote before clarifying his current relationship status. “I don’t have a girlfriend and don’t plan on having a girlfriend, however I do have normal friends that I love very much and would go to the ends of the earth for.”

Bryan continued his rant by encouraging others to “go give your attention and time to the literal city burning down,” seemingly referring to the ongoing Los Angeles fires.

“Stop being so sad and fickle and childish through screens. Last thing I’ll ever say on this. Insane I even have to,” he wrote. “You do not know me. You never will know me. Stop acting like you do.”

The singer added that instead of attacking people in his inner circle, his critics should speak about him instead because he can handle it.

“I am allowed to have love, laughter and good people in my life. No matter how bad of a person you think I am, go ahead and come for me. I can take all the hatred because I’m not a child,” he wrote in a subsequent Instagram Story. “But do not come for my friends who do nothing but love and care for me. Everyone wants you to have fun and make great music but you guys are making it really hard to do that with my friends getting insulted and death threats everyday.”

Bryan shared that he’s “worked really hard” for his success, but the constant chatter from social media makes him want to remain out of the spotlight.

“Whether you think I deserve it or not. Whether you think I suck or not. Stop being such sad and fat fingered internet sleuths to my friends,” he wrote. “We’re all humans and I’m so tired of people thinking social media is a way to have a moral high ground on people THEY’VE never met? Guess people aren’t humans any more since they can hide behind screens? Weird a–holes man ok I’m done.”

Bryan, in fact, was not done. He shared one more note stating that he didn’t want others to give him tips on how to “handle something or things they’ve never coped with” themselves.

“I lost my mother, I’ve been in war zones and I’ve battled this whole fame thing for five years. Respectfully, I don’t need your unsolicited advice, I am a grown man. I promise I can get through some little bullies on the internet,” he wrote. “I am so terrifyingly unphased by the fake s— people say about me online but coming for people I love and care for is my line and final straw.”

Bryan ended his rant by stating he was “hopping off” of social media “for a bit.”

Bryan made headlines late last year following his dramatic breakup from LaPaglia, 25. In October 2024, Bryan shared that he and the Barstool Sports personality called it quits after dating for more than a year. LaPaglia claimed that she was “blindsided” by the musician’s public announcement.

LaPaglia took a break from social media following the breakup, and Bryan has been laying low. One month after the split, LaPaglia returned to her “BFFs” podcast, where she gave insight into her dynamic with Bryan and claimed she was “emotionally abused” by the musician. (Us Weekly reached out to Bryan’s team at the time and received no response.)
