Studio Proba Reimagines Miami Pool As Immersive Artwork

Studio Proba, founded by multidisciplinary designer and artist Alex Proba, is no stranger to the swimming pool as a canvas. Proba has painted her colorful murals on numerous pools, but her latest project takes this concept to a new level with handmade ceramic tiles.

To realize the underwater mosaic Proba enlisted Ceramica Suro, a ceramics brand in Guadalajara, Mexico with over 70 years of experience in crafting high-quality pieces.

On collaborating with Proba, Jose Suro of Ceramica Suro said "She has a real knack for playing with colors and shapes in ways that create stunning, unforgettable pieces. The balance she strikes between creativity and precision has long impressed us."

The partners used the surface to depict an abstract interpretation of coral reefs, evoking the sea life and ecosystems of the nearby Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. Under the blue water, the artwork is enlivened with movement, revealing fluid forms and refracting colors. Submerged in the water, detailed images capture the unique experience of swimming in the space.

This physical relationship with the work is engrained in the ethos of Proba's ultimate mission, inviting viewers to actively engage instead of limiting the experience to a distant gaze.

The artist's work puts the increasingly overlapping domains of luxury living and immersive art into practice–without the need to leave their home, the owners can admire and play inside a one-of-a-kind artwork in their very own backyard.
