An Olympic athlete opened up on fears that her sporting career could have come to an early end, following a "big injury" as they appeared on ITV's Deal or No Deal. Heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson went up against the infamous banker as she battled to win money for charity, while sharing an insight into her life.

Speaking about her career to host Stephen Mulhern, Kat shared that she was "so proud". She added: "Especially in the last couple of years.

"I feel like I've clawed my way back to, you know, the person who I wanted to be as an athlete and finishing with a silver medal in Paris [2024 Olympics] meant that I did well."

The audience erupted into applause as an image of Kat and her silver medal appeared on screen. Stephen said: "There it is. In all it's glory."

The ITV host said to her: "What a career you've had. What a comeback you've had to win silver in Paris."

The athlete made a candid admission as she opened up on her fears following an injury. She said: "You know there was a sticky moment, though, where I didn't know if I was going to be able to continue in the sport after a big injury.

"So I'm so happy that I found a little bit of second wind for this bit of my career."

Kat was playing for two charities - one called Listening Ear and the other being Alzheimers Society UK - as she hoped to win a huge cash prize.

Explaining why she had chosen those charities, Kat said: "So I'm involved with Listening Ear because is it a charity that helps, especially young kids, people who are going through something like grieving or mourning, and they offer counselling over the phone.

"And Alzheimers Society UK is so close to my heart because my nan, who suffered from dementia, unfortunately died in 2022. So, hopefully we can win big to help both of those charities."

She was supported by her friends, family and fellow athletes as they worked together to open boxes.

Just like in the normal edition of the ITV game, the star had to open a number of boxes, hoping to see low numbers. After several boxes being opened the banker would offer an amount of money.
