The Third and Final Season of 'Squid Game' Will Release in 2025

The second season of Squid Game hit Netflix yesterday, December 26, and the streaming giant has wasted no time confirming that the mega-hit show's third — and final — season will be released in 2025. The release announcement, made via a post on Netflix's Tudum blog, also includes a letter to fans from the show's director, writer, and executive producer, Hwang Dong-hyuk, which can be seen in its entirety below.

In its first season, the show saw the down-on-his-luck Seong Gi-Hun, played by Lee Jung-Jae (who won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance, making him the first person to win that award for a non-English-speaking role, and the first Asian man to win as well) win the deadly "Squid Games," a life-or-death series of competitions whose winner walks away with a ₩45.6 billion KRW, or just under $31 million USD, cash prize — and decide to use his newfound wealth in an attempt to dismantle the games. Without revealing any spoilers, the second season's premise sees Gi-Hun return to the mysterious island on which the games are held and attempt to convince a new batch of players to vote for the games to stop, splitting the prize pot.

Netflix has yet to reveal any official release or plot details regarding the third season of Squid Game, but promises more info is coming soon.
