Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot showed former Manchester United team-mate Mason Greenwood support after his latest goal for Marseille on Sunday. The 23-year-old has made a blistering start to life in France after completing a £27million switch from Old Trafford in the summer, and he clearly still has the Portuguese duo's respect.

United and Greenwood decided it would be best for all parties to part ways earlier this year after the club received backlash for reported plans to reintegrate him into Erik ten Hag's squad.

The ex-Red Devils No. 11 had been absent for almost two years after being arrested for attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in January 2022.

Greenwood denied all the charges, which the UK's Prosecution Service dropped in February last year due to "a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction."

Following an internal investigation helmed by former United chief executive Richard Arnold, The Athletic claimed that Greenwood was set to return.

But after a bombardment of internal and external outrage over the decision, the M16 giants loaned Greenwood to La Liga outfit Getafe last season.

After netting 10 times in 36 games in Spain, the Bradford-born forward joined Marseille permanently ahead of this term.

And he has scored 11 goals and registered a further two assists in 16 appearances for the Ligue 1 club, most recently finding the net on Sunday.

Greenwood opened the scoring in Marseille's 4-0 Coupe de France victory at Saint-Etienne, preceding Adrien Rabiot, Luis Henrique and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's strikes against the 10-man hosts.

He later celebrated the win by sharing an image of his celebration on Instagram, and Fernandes and Dalot showed their love by liking the post.

Greenwood has scored more goals than any other United player this season, bettering Alejandro Garnacho's chart-topping tally of eight in all competitions.

United's latest toothless display in front of goal fell on the same day as Greenwood's cup heroics as AFC Bournemouth left Old Trafford as 3-0 winners for a second successive season.

Despite accumulating 2.28 xG to Bournemouth's 1.63 (0.64 without Justin Kluivert's penalty), the hosts squandered four big chances from 23 shots.

Ruben Amorim is expected to bolster his attack at the earliest opportunity, especially with Marcus Rashford seemingly on his way out.

When Greenwood leaves Marseille, United will profit after including a sell-on clause in his contract at the Velodrome.
