Emmerdale couple torn apart as fans 'work out' true identity of Steph Milligan's father

Emmerdale: Cain Dingle kisses Ruby Fox-Miligan

Emmerdale viewers tuning in on Friday believe they've pieced together the mysterious past of Ruby Milligan (played by Beth Cordingly), as she once again raised eyebrows.

Her daughter, Steph (Georgia Jay), was seen consoling her, sensing something amiss as they sifted through a memory box given to Ruby by her long-lost father, Anthony Fox (Nicholas Day). Anthony made his first appearance on the ITV soap earlier this week, with Steph trying to facilitate a reconciliation between him and her mother, Ruby.

However, as they examined an old photo of a young teenage Ruby, it was evident that she was concealing something. She appeared distressed while looking at the picture before breaking down in tears, prompting Steph to shut the box and put it aside.

A similar scene unfolded just days prior when Ruby encountered her father after many years of separation. She ran home crying and lashed out at her husband Caleb, clearly shaken by her father's sudden appearance.

Earlier, as Anthony implored his daughter for a chance, she retorted: "They don't see you but I do, I see you," reports the Mirror.

Anthony admitted he had "made mistakes" and expressed remorse, seemingly shifting some blame onto Helen.

Later in the week, Ruby requested a conversation with her father, insisting he leave immediately. As he conceded, saying: "You win," Ruby reacted with shock, replying to her father: "I win?" clearly disagreeing with his statement.

The plot thickened in the latest twist of the soap as it seems Ruby is harbouring a dark secret. The recent episodes have left fans on edge, with many speculating about Ruby's troubled past and her current distress.

The theory gaining traction among viewers is that Ruby may have been victimised by her father, who could also be Steph's biological parent.

Social media is abuzz with fan theories, with one viewer suggesting: "I think Steph is Ruby's Dad's daughter. I reckon he abused Ruby."

This sentiment was echoed by others, with comments such as "Me too," and "Exactly right."

Another fan expressed their belief that Ruby's estrangement from her mother might stem from disbelief over the alleged abuse.

This storyline development follows the revelation of Ruby's affair with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Caleb's (Will Ash) brother, which has set tongues wagging about how the truth will come to light. A shocking discovery by Caleb of emergency contraception in his bin led to a confrontation with Cain, who was bracing for a confession.

However, Cain was taken aback when Caleb revealed his ignorance of the affair, mistakenly attributing the contraceptive to his daughter Steph, who has been growing closer to Ross Barton (Michael Parr).

Caleb appears eager to have a conversation with Steph, and if he does, he'll quickly discover that the pill doesn't belong to her. Will Caleb confront his daughter, leading her to possibly admit that she didn't dispose of it in the bin, implying that Ruby must be the culprit?

Could Steph's denial result in either her or Caleb discovering Ruby's infidelity, and is there a chance someone saw her exiting the garage that day and connected the dots?

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV.
