Circulate Joins Harlem's National Jazz Museum for Melodic Holiday Collection

Circulate, designer Corey Populus' karmic LA-based fashion label, has inked a new collaboration with Harlem's National Jazz Museum for the Holiday 2024 season.

"Listening to jazz in stereo is like stepping into a living, breathing symphony of multidimensional artistry," Populus waxes of the partnership, which includes a full ready-to-wear lineup, on his brand's Instagram. "It’s a vivid tapestry where instruments and voices weave together in intricate patterns of improvisation and harmony, creating a soundscape that feels almost tangible."

Materializing this sensation, Circulate's latest cuts include varsity jackets, cardigans, hoodies, T-shirts and trousers — much of which don legendary jazz images shot by William P. Gottlieb, the lensman known for capturing the greats in the golden era of NYC jazz clubs.

Standouts include the Black Cats Varsity Jacket, which encapsulates the spirit of classic Harlem jazz with a leopard print collar, wristbands and cuffs, as well embroidery of a famous quote from Miles Davis: "Don't play what's there, play what's not there." Elsewhere, the Miles Cardigan goes full leopard print, inspired by the suit Davis wore to the 1967 Newport Jazz Festival, and the "Café Society" T-shirt hosts an image of Billie Holiday, known affectionately as "Lady Day," nodding to her memorable rendition of "Strange Fruit" at NYC's Café Society in 1939, among others.

The Circulate x National Jazz Museum collection is now available to shop on Circulate's webstore. Take a look at the lineup in the gallery above.
