CoD Continues To Dominate On Weekly Top-Played Games List

Market research firm Circana has released its list of weekly most-played games for the final week of October in the US, counting from October 27 to November 2. Unsurprisingly, Call of Duty still reigns supreme, retaining its number one placing on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while creeping up from fourth to third on Steam.

Circana executive Mat Piscatella revealed the most-played lists on Bluesky, and added some extra statistics to go along with it--such as the fact that a staggering 58% of active Xbox users played a Call of Duty title over the week. While that can likely be attributed to the new release of Black Ops 6 on October 25th, Circana only tracks the Call of Duty HQ launcher, meaning players logging into Warzone or older CoD games will all be tracked under the one title. The stat for PlayStation 5 was also impressive, if not as high as Xbox's, with 37% of active players using the Call of Duty HQ launcher.

The one new game to make it into the top ten lists is one that's not even out yet--the beta for Monster Hunter: Wilds--which debuted at 11 on PS5, and in second place on Steam. Both console lists show little variance from the previous week, with Fortnite in second place on both, followed by GTAV, NBA 2K25, and Roblox on PlayStation 5, and Roblox, GTAV, and Minecraft rounding out the top five on Xbox Series X|S.

The Steam list shows a little more variance, though Counter Strike 2 has retained its number 1 rank, while Helldivers 2 and Deadlock are once again in the top five games. In one of the biggest week-to-week changes, Phasmophobia is back in the top ten, up to eight place from 29 the week before. This can likely be attributed to the game's console release on October 29, which included crossplay between consoles and PC, and a new Crimson Eye update.

It will be interesting to see how long Black Ops 6's chokehold on players lasts, with November seeing a number of big releases for the Xbox and PC including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Stalker 2, and Genshin Impact finally coming to the Xbox. The PlayStation 5 Pro also released last week, bringing with it enhanced editions of a number of the console's most popular games.
