Shanghai tech firms gear up for HK market

Two Shanghai-based firms that are taking part in a national expo said they plan on expanding their reach into Hong Kong. TMiRob Technology and Faraconix are among the firms that have signed cooperation agreements at the China International Import Expo. TMiRob produces AI-powered robots that can be sent into isolation wards to conduct simple medical procedures, such as checking the temperature and radiation levels of cancer patients. "With the effort of letting our robots running inside Hong Kong hospitals, hopefully we can combine with more technologies in the world," the firm's founder, Pan Jing, told RTHK. Faraconix – which produces semiconductors for smartphones and computers – plans to expand into Hong Kong this month and invest more than HK$100 million in the coming three years. Its founder, Chi Law, is from Hong Kong and started the firm in Shanghai four years ago. "The purpose of coming to Hong Kong is to bring some communication products for use in the future, such as what's known as millimetre wave, or [products] in the 6G era, as well as satellite communication chips," he told RTHK. Law said despite the global competition in chip making, he expressed confidence that his company can come up with chips and tech that are better than those in the US in two to three years.
