Antiques Roadshow's Fiona Bruce confessed to experiencing something "that's never happened" in her tenure on the beloved programme.

While filming at Pitzhanger Manor in London, BBC's Fiona Bruce joined forces with ceramics connoisseur Serhat Ahmet for a round of "guess the mystery object".

Ahmet presented three fascinating pieces for the 60 year old presenter to examine and guess their purpose, offering two possible uses for each item.

Ahmet introduced the items, saying: "Three objects from the Meissen porcelain factory in Germany, the first factory in Europe to discover the formula for porcelain."

He expressed his fondness for the factory, noting its ongoing operation and presenting a collection spanning from about 1750 to 1880, starting with the earliest piece.

The initial object was a petite 1750 box, which Ahmet suggested might be a patch box for beauty spots or a ring holder.

As he described the second item from 1850, potentially an ice cream cone holder, Fiona immediately interjected: "No, that already sounds rubbish doesn't it!"

Ahmet elaborated: "You put a piece of parchment with your ice cream on it, it would sit on top here, as you can see there's a little bar, and that stops the ice cream from slipping down into the cone. And the metal collar kept the ice cream cool."

She challenged him to "Come up with a better one", as the expert suggested an alternative: a posy holder used by a bride.

"OK I don't like either of those but it's got to be one of them", Fiona remarked.

Ahmet then discussed the third item from 1880, suggesting that it was either used for hot sake or boiled eggs.

Fiona responded: "To be honest, I find all of these completely unconvincing but obviously one of them has got to be right."

The host then engaged various audience members, asking for their predictions, which resulted in a variety of different answers.

It was then Fiona's turn to weigh in: "Oh my gosh, some of this is so implausible but I know some of it's got to be right.

"So I'm going to go with the patches, posies, and I'm going to say this is for the sake."

The expert simply confirmed with a grin: "100%", leaving a shocked Fiona to exclaim: "Right? Oh that's never happened! You're so gutted now, aren't you? Totally gutted."

Ahmet conceded he was in fact "gutted" before she added: "I mean, it was a brilliant section of things. I have never seen any of these before."

The expert continued: "Yeah they're incredibly rare. The patchbox, 1750, £1,000.

"The posy holder, 1850, at about £800, and finally the little bowl sets, the sake bowl and stand, 1880 and that's about £500, and you often find one or the other but rarely together."

Fiona expressed her surprise and gratitude with the words: "Well listen, I'm amazed I got it right because that is rare, but to see these objects, that's such a treat, thank you so much", while Ahmet extended his congratulations to the host on her victory.

Antiques Roadshow is available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
