Dianne and Chris come up with their Strictly team name

Strictly Come Dancing's first live show this week followed a spectacular launch, with stars like JB Gill and Tasha Ghouri eyeing the coveted Glitterball trophy. But who has taken the lead in the first week, and who is lagging at the bottom of the leaderboard?

Here's the full rundown for week 1.

Who's leading the Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard?

Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell - 23

Chris and his professional partner Dianne delivered an impressive cha cha to The Beatles' Twist and Shout, reports the Mirror.

Chris, Strictly's first ever blind contestant, admitted he wasn't a fan of the show before joining it, as he couldn't see the dances on-screen.

Wynne Evans and Katya Jones - 26

Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans, famous for his role in the GoCompare adverts, showcased his dancing skills with a samba to Tom Jones' Help Yourself.

Wynne also shared his significant weight loss ahead of competing on the show, which should aid him in the fitness department.

Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu - 21

Among the favourites to win the Glitterball this year, X Factor champion and Coronation Street star Shayne Ward performed a samba with Nancy Xu this week.

They grooved to Stevie Wonder's hit Do I Do.

Jamie is no stranger to Strictly, having triumphed in the 2023 Christmas special with Nancy Xu after scoring a perfect 40 points.

Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystal - 17

TOWIE star Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystal set the stage on fire with their paso doble to The Prodigy's track Breathe. Pete, who also appeared on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins for the second time, had to be airlifted out after collapsing on a mountain due to overexertion.

Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe - 26

Gladiators legend Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe delighted fans with a foxtrot to Dinah Washington's Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby. The Team GB Olympian quipped: "Hopefully, a few of my Gladiator moves will come in handy with the Tango or Paso Doble."

Sam Quek and Nikita Kuzmin - 23

Olympic athlete Sam Quek and Nikita Kuzmin performed a foxtrot to The Supremes' Where Did Our Love Go. Reflecting on the show, Sam said: "People get so much joy, so much excitement, it brings people together and everyone has a different experience... To be going that long says something about the show."

JB Gill and Amy Dowden - 31

JLS star JB Gill and Amy Dowden are another pair tipped to win this year. They danced a classic waltz to Leo Sayer's When I Need You.

JB, who has previous dance experience from his time with JLS, won the Strictly Christmas trophy back in 2012 with pro Ola Jordan.

Toyah Willcox and her partner Neil Jones, who has been absent from the line-up in recent weeks, took to the dance floor with a tango routine set to Madonna's Ray of Light.

Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola - 30

Sarah Hadland, star of Miranda, showcased her quick footwork as she performed a Quickstep with Vito Coppola to Dolly Parton's hit 9 to 5. Sarah revealed an amusing wardrobe malfunction where she accidentally flashed her crotch during a lift.

She praised the swift response of the costume department who "came running down with a bit of perfect matching marabou feather, and within about 10 seconds, it was stitched on the bottom of my dress."

Tasha Ghouri and Aljaz Skorjanec - 30

Love Island contestant Tasha Ghouri and her professional partner Aljaz Skorjanec brought Strictly into the modern age with a cha cha routine to Sabrina Carpenter's summer hit Espresso. Could Tasha follow in Rose Ayling-Ellis' footsteps and become the second Deaf Strictly star to win the trophy?

Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez - 19

TV doctor Punam Krishan also tackled the cha cha this week, moving to the rhythm of Kylie Minogue's Love at First Sight with Gorka Marquez.

Punam enthused to RadioTimes: "I have loved watching it for as long as it's been on. It's a really incredible, feel-good, joyous show. I'm always doing things for everybody else pleasing my parents, working for my patients, being a mother, a wife. I'm putting myself out there to try something completely different, for me."

Paul Merson and Karen Hauer - 17

Arsenal legend Paul Merson made sure his dance was an ode to football with a witty American Smooth to the terrace anthem Vindaloo by Fat Les. Despite the sporting spirit, he appears to be the bookie's first choice to leave alongside his dance partner Karen Hauer.

Tom Dean and Nadiya Bychkova - 23

Olympic champion Tom Dean set pulses racing with his partnership with Nadiya Bychkova, performing a sizzling tango to Harry Styles' hit Golden. Dean shared his excitement about his dance journey, saying: "I've spent too long in the pool and not enough time on land! I couldn't be taught by anyone better a world champion. With the ballroom stuff, because we're both quite tall, we can make it look quite flowy and float across the floor, which should be quite good."

Nick Knowles and Luba Mushtuk - 18

TV's handyman Nick Knowles gave it his all in a Jive with Luba Mushtuk to the tune of Starships We Built This City. Eager fans will get their chance to have their say when voting lines open next Saturday (September 28), with the season's first eviction happening the following night (Sunday, September 29).

The prime-time entertainment starts at 7pm on BBC One tonight, but viewers wont see any exits this weekend.
