DAB calls on govt to beautify Sham Shui Po

A DAB lawmaker on Tuesday called on the government to beautify Sham Shui Po, to attract more visitors to the district. At a press briefing, Vincent Cheng, who represents the Kowloon West geographical constituency, said businesses in Sham Shui Po are struggling to survive as more Hongkongers head north for tourism and shopping. Cheng said the government should begin with enhancing the appeal of Apliu Street. "Apliu Street is one of the really historical streets. It's full of different kinds of electricity products, especially the old cameras, the old CDs, a lot of different musical stuff over there. So we do think there are a lot of visitors going around there every day. So we do think there's a good attraction," he explained. "So, the government can have some promotion or revamp to make sure that everyone knows that Apliu Street is really good for the tourists." Cheng also suggested installing figures of the district's mascot, known as "Sham Duck", and renovating the "pai dong" hawker stalls in the area.
