GMB fans react as Sharon Stone puts Ed Balls 'in his place' after awkward question

GMB: Sharon Stone tells Ed Balls 'you're setting me up'

Good Morning Britain fans all said the same thing following Ed Balls' straight-talking sex scandal question for Sharon Stone - and she wasn't afraid to shut him down as she corrected him on his facts. The 66-year-old Hollywood legend seemed to be suppressing laughter and cringing slightly as Ed plunged straight in at the deep end with his question.

Referencing the MeToo movement and the conviction of film producer Harvey Weinstein, Ed then brought up "the fact that Hollywood producer Robert Evans advised you to have sex with your fellow lead William Baldwin in the '93 movie Sliver to improve his performance". She immediately made it clear she was not impressed with him referring to that as a "fact".

As Ed asked: "Can you look back on those times? How do you feel today about what producers said to you back then?", she exclaimed: "First of all, you're setting me up with the 'Did you beat your wife yet' comment." She continued: "I'm not going to validate the statement you just made as if it is true. So we're not gonna do that, to start with."

Then, seamlessly orchestrating her own PR, the Basic Instinct star told him in no uncertain terms: "I'd like to restart with a new question somewhere else." Viewers were impressed, taking to Twitter to praise how well she'd handled an awkward situation.

"Ed Balls clearly has all the subtlety of an elephant fart. Well done Sharon Stone for putting him in his place #GMB," one celebrated. "Sharon Stone shutting Ed RIGHT down very eloquently. Liking this woman more and more #gmb," another agreed.

A third chimed in: "Sharon Stone legend just showed Ed Balls - sit down little man #GMB." (sic)

"Try again Ed. Sharon Stone just put him in his place!" cried a fourth.

Meanwhile, she was praised for being a "legend", as one tweeter mused: "She's overcome so much in her life and remains a strong powerful person."

Someone else sympathised with Sharon for having to go to the trouble of fielding off the "rude" question, quizzing: "WHY is Ed Balls still on this programme? He’s a walking cringe."

When he then quizzed her about how she felt she'd been treated in Hollywood over her decades-long career, she gave little away, simply shrugging: "I've been treated many different ways in Hollywood and all kinds of cities all over the place."

She then corrected: "Hollywood isn't really a place. There may be a sign but that's not where we do business."

Sharon was also on the show to discuss her artistic ambitions, as she's already held exhibitions of her work in cities like San Francisco and Berlin, and now paints for up to 17 hours per day, after developing a passion for it during the pandemic.

Elsewhere on GMB today, the Archbishop of Canterbury urged viewers not to "judge" King Charles for seemingly snubbing son Prince Harry on his visit to the UK this week.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
