Salt Lake City is slated to get its first peek Tuesday at a proposed downtown sports and entertainment district that proponents say will be a hive of year-round activity and breathe new energy into downtown.

City Council members are scheduled to hear initial details about the proposed district publicly at 3:55 p.m. A livestream of the meeting will be available below:

The council could hear more Tuesday about the proposed footprint of the district and how it may affect properties around the Delta Center. The uncertain future of Abravanel Hall has ignited concerns among some who fear losing the 45-year-old concert venue.

Council members are tentatively scheduled to vote on the proposed sales tax increase July 2. A public hearing will be scheduled for May 21 at City Hall.
