Good Morning Britain fans took to Twitter this morning to question why Ed Balls has a presenting role on their favourite show. The criticism quickly came in as one viewer quizzed: "@GMB who chose Ed Balls as a presenter? All the personality of a kiln-dried log."

Another blasted: "@GMB Ed Balls is looking more and more a misfit, every time he’s on the programme." A third chimed in: "I hate myself 4 saying it, but Madeley would be a better replacement 4 Ed Balls, the man is dire #gmb." (sic)

The backlash comes after he and co-star Kate Garraway were blasted for a divisive interview with Labour Party chair Anneliese Dodds on the ITV show. Viewers swiped that it seemed as though the pair were being "paid by the word" as they blasted them for "not allowing" her to finish a sentence.

Dodds described the situation in Gaza as "intolerable" and sympathised with those who were "desperately worried" over the continuing war with Israel. Although negotiations held by Egypt and Qatar seemed to be making progress yesterday, it has now emerged that Israel felt the conditions for a ceasefire had not been met, so the conflict will continue.

Following early indications that Labour will lead the Conservatives in the next election, but are unlikely to gain a majority, she discussed how the war in Gaza is affecting votes for the party. One viewer blasted: "What a nasty aggressive interview! Shame on Kate Garraway and Ed Balls!

"Just pure gotcha TV wouldn’t let Anneliese Dodds finish a sentence, this is becoming the norm for GMB... Disgusting journalism.” (sic)

Another claimed that Ed was continually talking over Kate as well, telling him: "Let people talk. Stop talking over them."

Meanwhile, this morning, viewers took aim at Ed yet again this morning as the prospect of Boris Johnson returning as the Conservative leader was raised on the show.

"#GMB Bring back Boris Johnson? More chance of Ed Balls getting Breakfast Presenter of the Year award, complete joke!" one viewer sarcastically swiped.

Some have also questioned whether Ed would be able to show impartiality when the situation calls for it, due to his political past.

However, not everyone dislikes the presenter as some have branded him a "breath of fresh air" on the show.
