Watch the Official Trailer for Netflix's Emotional Crime Drama 'Eric' Starring Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch stars in the upcoming limited series from Netflix. Titled Eric, the actor plays a loving father who finds himself wracked with guilt following his son's disappearance. He dives into his role as a children's television puppeteer as he becomes obsessed with his nine-year-old son's imaginary creation. This crime thriller takes audiences back to 1980 New York City.

In the official synopsis of the series, Netflix states "Vincent, one of New York's leading puppeteers and creator of the hugely popular children's television show, Good Day Sunshine, struggles to cope with the loss of his son, Edgar, becoming increasingly distressed and volatile. Full of self-loathing and guilt around Edgar's disappearance, he clings to his son’s drawings of a blue monster puppet, Eric, convinced that if he can get Eric on TV then Edgar will come home. As Vincent's progressively destructive behaviour alienates his family, his work colleagues, and the detectives trying to help him, it's Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in the pursuit to bring his son home."

Throughout the trailer, audiences catch a glimpse of how emotionally distraught Vincent becomes and how it affects his work and personal life. The series also sees Gaby Hoffmann, McKinley Belcher III, Dan Fogler and Clarke Peters star alongside Cumberbatch. Watch the trailer above. Eric debuts on Netflix on May 30.
