Gogglebox fans issue the same complaint minutes into Channel 4 show

Subtle change to Gogglebox intro

As the latest addition of Gogglebox began, it wasn’t long before Channel 4 realised the theme tune music sounded slightly different. Although the introduction usually has an upbeat song playing in the background, there was a more mellow version played out.

However, it seemed as though people were not happy with the change as they quickly took to Twitter to complain. @charffs said: “Sorry what is this new song?!” @ellasrhapsody commented: “The new theme tune is Not It.” @molly4152 tweeted: “What’s with the key change.”

@HasanHussain777 asked: “Why have they changed the theme tune….” With @__Anastazia__ questioning: “Have they changed the theme tune or am I going crazy?”. Although not everyone seemed to mind the slightly toned-down version. @AntGill77 commented: “New intro music on @C4Gogglebox Nice and mellow, what’s that about? #Gogglebox.”

However, there is a reason behind Gogglebox’s changed theme tune. It’s due to the second series of Claudia Winkleman’s show The Piano airing on Channel 4 this weekend.

As the instrument was heard in the background, it marked the first time the distinctive theme tune has changed over the past 11 years.

The regular song, which is called Perfect World by the band Kodaline, was reimagined by the band’s frontman Steve Carrigan as a piano rendition.

Gogglebox isn’t the only Channel 4 show whose theme tune will be changed in preparation for The Piano.

Countdown’s famous theme will have a piano remix in a new version by Steve Holness and Pascal Wyse from Monday 29 May, to Friday 3 May.

The upcoming series of Come Dine With Me: The Professionals will also feature piano title music by Patrick Duffin in episodes airing from Monday 6, to Friday 10 May.

Speaking about the changes, Ian Katz, Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer, said: “The Piano is that rarest of things, a TV show that makes people feel better about the world after watching it than they did before.

“We are spreading a little of that musical magic by replacing the theme tunes of some of our best-loved shows with specially recorded piano versions.

“Big thanks go out to the talented composers and performers who have made this happen and our production partners who are joining us in celebrating the return of The Piano.”

Gogglebox continues Fridays on Channel 4 from 9pm
