Man arrested for murder after woman in 50s found dead in luxury hotel

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a five-star hotel in Surrey.

Police were called to the Pennyhill Park Hotel in the village of Bagshot at 8.43am last Sunday.

The body of the woman, who was in her 50s, was earlier discovered by an ambulance crew.

Surrey Police said the man who was arrested is believed to be known to the victim.

A spokesperson said: ‘A 60-year-old man from Devon has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at this time.

‘It is believed that the victim and suspect were known to each other.

‘An investigation, led by Surrey Police and Sussex Police’s Major Crime Team, is underway to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death. These enquiries remain ongoing.’

Pennyhill Park Hotel has 124 bedrooms for guests ranging in price from £470 a night to £1,270.

The site also features a spa, gym and a Michelin-starred restaurant run by head chef Steve Smith.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Debbie Birch said: ‘Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.

‘The investigation is in the early stages and a specialist team of officers are working around the clock to follow up enquiries.’
