ITV face backlash as schedule thrown into chaos as fans rage at weekend repeats

Britain's Got Talent 2024 trailer

ITV's flagship entertainment programme Britain's got Talent returns to screens on Saturday (March 20) and brand new drama Red Eye starring Richard Armitage hits the channel on Sunday. However it appears that there is not much else in the way of new content for viewers of the broadcaster to watch in the coming weeks.

As Ant and Dec and the Britain's Got Talent judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli and Amanda Holden, get set for the new season the channel has come under fire for scheduling numerous repeats in prime time slots at the weekend. An account called TV Zone on X pointed out the fact that Sunday 28th April has numerous repeats scheduled and claimed it meant the channel was "struggling".

"If you wanted a sign that ITV are now starting to struggle to fill the schedule, Sunday 28th April is a repeat of #TheChase Celebrity Special, followed by a repeat of #DealOrNoDeal (one of the daytime episodes, not a celebrity special), followed by a repeat of #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire," they posted.

They added: "Who wants to bet that they don't re-edit the daytime cut of Deal Or No Deal so Stephen still introduces it as a 'new week' and 'join us again tomorrow at the same time'."

Their followers seemed to agree with them and flooded the comments with their thoughts. @adejacobsdj pondered: "I do kind of wonder if the way forward is more co-operation or pooling of resources between ITV and the BBC. I know they are much closer than they ever used to be."

@P0LITIVISI0N suggested: "They should go in to the archive and air stuff not seen for ages instead of crap recent quiz shows. Some 00s dramas, music comps or even stuff like cduk performances like bbc with totp [Top Of The Pops]."

@calzone325 claimed: "And yet they still have new episodes of The Chase Celebrity Special and Tipping Point: Lucky Stars on the shelf that were filmed in 2022…"

@GeorgeHogg93 also referred to shows that had yet to air writing: "Also, the 2nd half of Series 3 and all of Series 4 of Lingo are on the shelf still @itv, do the sensible thing and show new Lingo instead of filling in endless repeats in the 3pm slot daytime please." @courtenaywrites opined: "Saturday night TV used to be so good—from morning to midnight. Now, there’s nothing on but repeats."

However @MattZeeMiller defended the channel saying: "But look at bbc1 Saturday nights , blankety blank repeats and was pointless repeats and weakest link . As warmer weather starts expecting more repeats on all channels not less." (sic)

The Chase, hosted by Bradley Walsh and Jeremy Clarkson who fronts Who Wants To Be a Millionaire are two of the channel's most popular shows.

Meanwhile, Deal Or No Deal, presented by Stephen Mulhern, has garnered a solid fanbase since the channel rebooted it in November last year.

The channel also repeats Saturday night's Britain's Got Talent on a Sunday leaving very little room in the schedule for original content.

Weekends are not the only time they repeat content as their teatime schedule frequently features repeat episodes of their popular quiz shows.
