Coronation Street's Carla Connor confronted about lie by imprisoned Roy Cropper

Coronation Street: Roy Cropper is denied bail

ITV has released official spoilers for next week's Coronation Street which show that Roy Cropper (played by David Nielsen) has a glimmer of hope in his fight to clear his name for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton). However, it is cruelly snatched from him in scenes set to air on Friday, April 26.

Having been told by his solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) that new evidence has come to light, he anxiously awaits his new bail hearing. Although he had been refused bail at his first hearing he confides in a prison officer that he’s hopeful he may be released.

Once again Dee-Dee fights his corner and lays out Bobby Crawford's (Jack Carroll) new evidence for the court. He had amended his original statement to say that he saw a man leaving Lauren’s flat who didn’t fit Roy’s description.

Indeed the fact that he said the man was wearing a dark parka and balaclava had thrown suspicion on Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) who was taken in for questioning again. Although Dee-Dee lays all this out for the Judge they still refuse Roy’s application.

With his hopes of freedom crushed, Dee-Dee visits him in his cell and tells him not to give up hope as the police are planning a reconstruction of Lauren's final movements. Later, Roy calls Carla from prison and asks her to come and see him.

He tells the anxious factory owner he needs to talk to her about Bobby’s statement.

Carla has been feeling guilty ever since Bobby told her what he had done, but will she be able to hide this from Roy and has he realised Bobby lied?

This latest twist for Roy comes after vigilantes try to force him to confess to the murder by holding his dog hostage.

In the episode that will air on Monday, April 22 Young Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) has been tasked with walking Freddie before school. Unfortunately, he is being watched as he heads out with the pooch.

When he later returns distraught to the cafe he explains Freddie has run off. Roy's niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) and Toyah Habeed (Georgia Taylor) head out to try and track him down.

Although they pound the pavements, their efforts are in vain as he is actually in the hands of some amateur sleuths who are convinced of Roy's guilt.

The group uploaded a video online indicating that they have taken Freddie.

As Nina, Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) and Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) watch in horror the kidnappers cruelly state in order to secure Freddie's safe return Roy must confess to Lauren’s murder.

Coronation Street is on ITV Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
