Emmerdale's Eric Pollard's downfall 'sealed' after swindling Kerry as fans spot clue

Amy Wyatt (played by Natalie Ann Jamieson) married Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) during tonight's episode of Emmerdale, but the ceremony was almost over before it began because of Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton).

Amy's mum Kerry thought a necklace gifted to her by an ex-lover would cover the cost of the wedding, but Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) informed her it was worth £100, meaning she'd have to come clean to the couple about her financial situation.

The bride-to-be was understandably left heartbroken when Kerry admitted she could not afford to pay for the wedding just hours before she was meant to meet Matty down the aisle in Kim Tate's (Claire King) lavish home.

However, after taking a mystery call later on in the episode, Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) announced the wedding was back on to Amy and Matty's relief. Everyone was welcome at the ceremony apart from Kerry who was escorted out after sneaking inside wearing a wig.

Eric ended up walking Amy down the aisle after she banished her mother from the ceremony. By the end of the episode, Amy told Kerry to leave the village for good, but before her exit, she thanked Eric for being "such a good friend".

As Kerry left Emmerdale with her suitcases still dressed in her mother-of-the-bride dress, Eric hopped in a car with a mystery man who handed him an envelope full of cash. The unknown character said: "If you have any more jewellery which needs shifting, well, you know where I am."

Eric, who was counting the wad of money he'd made from selling Kerry's necklace for a considerable amount more than he told her it was worth, replied: "I do. There's life in the old dog yet." He jumped out of the car looking smug about the lucrative transaction.

Emmerdale viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, in droves following the shocking ending. One stunned fan wrote: "Eric!!!! Did not see that coming although I should have! #Emmerdale." A second added: "#Emmerdale Eric, even though I hate Kerry, that’s not very nice scamming her! It’s hard to believe he’d do that these days." Sally noted: "Sly old fox Eric Pollard never changes !! #Emmerdale."

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other publications about the wedding episode, Matty actor Ash explained: " I think, you know, just as an actor in general, like, it's a bit of an iconic thing, isn't it to do a soap wedding? And, you know, I always wanted to do that. So it was really exciting. And then obviously Nat had a lot of great input with what her look wanted to be tough and stuff. So yeah, it was really exciting."

Addressing the issue with the dark lipstick Natalie wore to kiss him with at the bottom of the aisle, Ash shared: "That was the thing though, because I didn't realise that your lipstick was going to be so dark.

"So when we went for the kiss in rehearsal, there was a lot going on and the lovely emotional beautiful scene with these vows and it's really lovely. And then Matty is just covered in [lipstick] like so we had to work that one out. Yeah, it's, it's been really good to do."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
