Amanda Holden talks about potentially hosting Blind Date

Over the past few weeks, there’s been speculation that the popular dating show Blind Date could be making a comeback. Following the huge success of making a return, Hungry Bear Media Boss Dan Baldwin - who is married to Holly Willoughby - teased another classic could be on the way.

The late Cilla Black fronted the series from 1985 to 2003, withtaking over the brief revival from 2017 to 2019. With speculation of the show’s return on the rise, people have been left wondering who could be the next face of Blind Date.

On Wednesday’s instalment of entertainment reporter Richard Arnold spoke to about potentially hosting a revival. He asked: “You’ve got the success of Gladiators coming back and rumours of Blind Date coming back. Hostess with the mostess?”

Aiming the question at Amanda, she seemed taken aback by the idea. She replied: “What?! No, no, no, no no! I love that show. It would be perfect for me wouldn’t it? But I’m not doing it.”

She joked that she and could host Blind Date together before the business mogul hinted at X Factor also making a comeback.

Amanda starred on Blind Date when she was just 19 years old as the teen was looking for love.

Appearing in a black mini dress and sporting a blonde bob, Amanda told Cilla at the time that she’d like to have a “knees up” with Jack Nicholson.

The 19-year-old also revealed at the time that she liked to experience a mature man.

Although she gave her best effort, the male contestant Barnaby Hands didn’t choose her and went with another female on the show instead.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4, TV boss Dan touched on bringing old shows back. He said: "There is nothing wrong with that because those shows were great for a reason.

"As well as coming up with new ideas, we’ve always got one eye on what could come back and what could be a hit like Gladiators is.

"Another one that you’d like to see back, Blind Date, are we ready for that? What a Saturday night that was.

"I’m thinking Blind Date with on BBC1, how about it?"

However, Richard Arnold suggested his wife Holly could be the perfect face of Blind Date.

Before her death in 2015, Cilla Black gave the former This Morning presenter her blessing to take over.

In an old interview, Phillip Schofield suggested his co-star could host the show, as Cilla admitted she wouldn’t go back full-time.

Thrilled with the idea, Cilla told Holly: “Oh yeah, you should do it!"
