ITV Coronation Street's Roy Cropper set for fresh heartache as his dog's taken hostage

Coronation Street: Roy Cropper is denied bail

Coronation Street's Roy Cropper (played by David Nielsen) is set for even more distress when his beloved dog Freddie is kidnapped next week. Official spoilers released by ITV for the soap show that a group of vigilantes hold the canine captive in order to force Roy to confess to the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).

The incident takes place as the Weatherfield stalwart's friends and neighbours rally around to run the café and care for Freddie in his absence. Having been denied bail, Roy is currently languishing in prison awaiting trial for the murder of Lauren.

Although no one on the street believes the claims against the mild-mannered cafe owner, the general public is convinced that he is guilty. As such one group decide to take matters into their own hands.

In scenes set to air on Monday, April 22 Young Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) has been tasked with walking Freddie before school. Unfortunately, he is being watched as he heads out with the pooch.

When he later returns distraught to the cafe he explains Freddie has run off. Roy's niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) and Toyah Habeed (Georgia Taylor) head out to try and track him down.

Although they pound the pavements their efforts are in vain as he is actually in the hands of some amateur sleuths who are convinced of Roy's guilt.

The group uploaded a video online indicating that they have taken Freddie and laid out their demands.

As Nina, Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) and Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) watch in horror the kidnappers cruelly state in order to secure Freddie's safe return Roy must confess to Lauren’s murder.

While he has protested his innocence throughout his ordeal and the police have found nobody will he be tempted to change his plea in order to secure his dog's safety?

The kidnapping is all the more painful due to the fact Roy has been refused bail and is currently languishing in prison.

Despite Dee Dee Bailey's (Channique Sterling-Brown) best efforts in Monday night's (April 15) episode, the CPS barrister painted Roy as a murderer with a violent past and listed his crimes including an assault on Gary Windass (Mikey North) and the abduction of one of his foster children.

This was enough to ensure that the judge refused his petition and as his friends decried the decision he was led back to his lonely cell.

Coronation Street is on ITV Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
