BBC Breakfast branded 'puerile' and 'boring' as viewers hit out at string of news stories

Complaints flooded in on Twitter over BBC Breakfast this morning, as viewers argued that major world issues were not being given sufficient priority, whereas more trivial matters were. "45 people die in a bus crash in South Africa and it gets less than 20 seconds.

"Compare that to the Baltimore Bridge collapse with 6 lives lost, it led the news for days. The UK media is so bad," raged one tweeter. He then returned to add: "Please go straight to the regional news, really bored with your quirky stories from inside the papers. Often just puerile nonsense. #bbcbreakfast."

Another viewer agreed, pointing out: "Children omitted from a school photo is disappointing & hurtful for a parent, but not a national trend. It does NOT justify being the third News story on a major news program. Its a one off incident, & not criminal. This should not be featured as a prominent story. #bbcbreakfast."

Viewers were also miffed about a story describing how lightning had struck a hotel in Wales - particularly as it was subsequently pointed out that the hotel was undamaged and still open for business as usual. "Lightning strikes building and everything carries on as normal just as it does hundreds of times every day. Why is this news?#bbcbreakfast," one quizzed.

Meanwhile, others suggested they'd like to see more coverage of the cost of living crisis. "#BBCBreakfast people are having to eat or heat! 2 million more people are using food banks! People are having to pull their own teeth out!" a viewer wrote.

They then added sarcastically: "Oh yeah and people flying off for Easter holidays is up 9%!"

Meanwhile, Naga Munchetty didn't escape from fierce criticism either, with one viewer making a complaint of a very personal nature.

"#Munchetty definitely struggling with autocue this morning on #bbcbreakfast. It’s only 0715 and she’s f****d up several times already!" they argued.

She also featured a story about a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and magpie who'd been bosom buddies before being separated from each other by wildlife authorities in Australia - and some saw this as too trivial to discuss on the news.

However, Naga did also tackle a string of very serious issues, giving time to the Baltimore Bridge collapse, international famine and a struggling family with an autistic child to name just a few.
