Beyond Paradise's Kris Marshall addresses show cancellation as he admits 'Was a first'

, the actor best known for his lead role in BBC One's hit series from 2014 to 2017, has expressed his feelings on his later project, ITV's Sanditon being cancelled and then subsequently resurrected.

Sanditon, which is a romantic drama based on an incomplete novel by Jane Austen, managed to return for its second series in July 2022 despite initially struggling to draw viewers and being taken off air after just one series.

Speaking in a previous interview with the RadioTimes about starring in Sanditon's second season, Kris explained: "It is the first show I've been on that has been cancelled, then reinstated."

He went on to credit the fans who took action when the show gained popularity in America, saying: "The fans did that after it took off in America, organising an incredible campaign to bring the show back."

The acting professional also shared memories of seeing great sand artworks created by fans on the beach near their filming location, calling them "relentless". Kris wrapped up by sharing his joy at the show being recommisioned for two more series, and expressing his enthusiasm about his role as Tom Parker, an entrepreneur who aims to turn Sanditon into a classy seaside resort.

In the first season, Tom really wanted to make Sanditon a super popular place like Brighton, but then a big fire happened and it was very bad.

When fans got to see more in the second series, Tom didn't give up. He was even more set on making his big idea come true.

Fans will be able to see Kris on screens at the moment as he stars in the second series of Beyond Paradise.

After a successful first series, the actor reprised his role as clumsy but loveable DI Humphrey Goodman.

The new series will continue to tell the love story of Humphrey and Martha Lloyd (played by Sally Bretton) and their plans to expand their family.

Previously speaking on The One Show about the Death in Paradise spin-off, the actor shared: "We're basically following Humphrey and his girlfriend Martha's journey as they move in with the mother-in-law down in the South West.

"His new role is as the detective inspector of the local constabulary and it's lots of fun."
