Manchester United's new manager, Ruben Amorim, has promised that his team will play "without fear" - and he says he's committed to bringing the Premier League title back to Old Trafford.

Speaking for the first time since taking over the reins at United, Amorim emphasised the importance of courage and belief in his players.

The new head coach, who is likely to implement a three-at-the-back system, stressed that improving the players' mentality is more crucial than any tactical changes. "We have to start from day one without fear, without thinking that they are not used to playing like this," Amorim declared.

"They will start on the first day with our idea, no matter what. That's the goal." Acknowledging the club's long Premier League drought, he said: "A long time ago, we didn't win the Premier League.

"But if you ask, Manchester United is the biggest club in England. This is part of history, it's not now. So we have to address that, to show that and to try to win again.

"I will do everything for the team. I will defend my players, all the time, against everybody. That's a key point for me and I will try to do everything to put this club in the place that it belongs. And I believe a lot that we are going to succeed."

The 39-year-old has explained his decision to join United, citing the club's history and his personal connection with it as key factors. He said in an interview with Manchester United club media: "First of all, I think I felt a connection with the club.

"I feel a connection with the people in the club and that's very important for me, because I want to work with people I like and I feel a connection. The second point is the history of this club.

"But when I think as a player or as a team-mate of Manchester United, it is not a system of formation, it's like the character of the players, the way they see the club."

He added: "All the people are hungry for success and I feel that this is the place that I want to be also because of that, because you can be part of something special, not just one more. And that is something that I really like.

"When you see the games here, when you see the interaction with the managers, with the players, even in difficult moments, I think it's a special club. So it's a lot of reasons. But the first reason is because it's a club with a great history."
