England will get their Euro 2024 campaign underway this evening when they take on Serbia at Arena AufSchalke. The Three Lions are favourites to win the tournament after losing the Euro 2020 final to Italy three years ago.

Germany opened the tournament in style on Friday as they thrashed Scotland 5-1, before Spain thumped Croatia 3-0 on Saturday.

Italy were then made to work in their opening encounter as they fell behind to Albania after just 23 seconds. But the Azzurri eventually secured a 2-1 victory.

England will have a full squad to select from and will be desperate to their Euro 2024 campaign off to a flying start.

Gareth Southgate is taking charge of his fourth major tournament and has already led his team to a World Cup semi-final and quarter-final as well as the Euro 2020 final.

The Group C clash kicks off at 8pm after Poland go head-to-head with the Netherlands at 2pm in Group D and Slovenia take on Denmark at 5pm in the same group as England.

England compared to Albania

Italy forward Federico Chiesa claims he was reminded of England’s fast start to the Euro 2020 final after Albania stunned the Azzurri with a goal after 23 seconds yesterday. Albania took the lead with the fastest ever goal of a European Championship, before Italy eventually won the match 2-1.

In the Euro 2020 final, Luke Shaw fired England in front after one minute and 56 seconds, before Italy won the showdown following a penalty shootout.

“I had some flashbacks of the Euro 2020 final,” Chiesa explained yesterday. “But we did the same thing against England and Albania, which was dominating the game.”

Havertz makes Scotland claim

Germany striker Kai Havertz says his country will face tougher teams than Scotland at Euro 2024. The Arsenal star struck from the penalty spot as Germany thrashed Scotland 5-1 on Friday night.

“Although Scotland were a very good team with a great coach, the opponents are going to get tougher,” Havertz explained after the match.

“It was actually a tough match. But as you go further and further into a tournament, the matches get harder and harder. We keep on going, train good, sleep good. And play with confidence.”

Kane piles pressure on England

Harry Kane has piled the pressure on his England team-mates by insisting the Three Lions are in Germany to win Euro 2024. The Bayern Munich striker says near-misses are no longer good enough.

“I think the last three tournaments, of course the last Euros coming extremely close to getting over the line, but I think we’re all at that stage now where, yes, we want to have a great tournament, want to make everyone proud but we want to win,” Kane said ahead of his side’s opening contest.

“We feel like we’re in a position where we definitely have enough in the squad to do that. We also know we’re starting a very tough tournament - no English side has ever won it before.

“So it’s going to be extremely tough but I think just with the experiences that we’ve had - not just at international level, but club level as well - will help us. But I think for sure we are at that stage now where anything other than winning we’re going to be disappointed.”
