Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his joy over his club's Scottish Premiership title win, which will usher in a wealth of Champions League riches for his team. And he insists the Hoops would be a top six team if they were parachuted into England's Premier League.

The Northern Irishman acknowledged that direct entry into the restructured Champions League which guarantees two additional matches enables the Parkhead side to amass 'substantial funds' as they strive to make their mark at the pinnacle of European football.

In 2023/34, Celtic raked in more than £30million from the Champions League, but this figure is anticipated to surge dramatically with the introduction of new revenue streams.

Speaking on talkSPORT about his team's triumphant march to a third successive Premiership title, he said: "That's why the league was so important for us this year.

"Especially with the new format, financially more rewarding, it's the best opportunity the club can get to make substantial funds."

"And, clearly, from a football perspective, it's brilliant to go and test yourselves at that level."

Discussing Celtic's triumph led him to assess Celtic's position in British football and the prospective impact that competing in England's Premier League on the team he manages would have.

He added: "Celtic and Rangers, and I can only talk from a Celtic perspective, are absolutely massive. If Celtic were in the Premier League, it would be up there and, minimum, that top six bracket.

"You would (need a 100,000-seater stadium). It is absolutely incredible, wherever you go in the world you will meet Celtic supporters.

"The fanbase, the history of the club, that's what makes it a truly special club."
