defender admits he’s “on the fence” over the idea of a new manager replacing Jurgen Klopp for next season - saying he’s excited for a new way of playing but acknowledging it will be a massive change for the club. The German coach will leave Anfield next month after nine successful years, having given Alexander-Arnold his debut in 2016 at age 18.

Now 25, Alexander-Arnold has made 303 first-team appearances for the club, scoring 18 goals and providing 81 assists while winning seven trophies. All of that has come under Klopp who has been pivotal to his development. The right-back is also now the vice-captain to Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.

Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is the man tipped to replace Klopp, although the 39-year-old Portuguese tactician has publicly denied claims he already has a verbal agreement in principle with the Premier League giants. Regardless, Amorim is understood to be the No.1 target on Merseyside with unattainable.

And Alexander-Arnold told Gary Neville on The Overlap: “Klopp has been nothing but incredible. I owe everything to him as a player. I was thinking about this recently and the only thing you can ask for as a young player is an opportunity and what you can hope at 18 or 19, is that you’ve got a manager that’s willing to give you a chance, and I was fortunate enough to have that.

“Not only that, he put his arm round me and guided me through it, through the ups and downs, winning and losing games, and taking it game by games, because your first bad game you think you’re never going to kick a ball again, but he gives you that reassurance.

“I’d probably say I’m sat on the fence on it [a new manager coming in]. It’ll be a completely different situation and it’s going to be weird to then turn up to pre-season, having to adopt a new playing style.

“Whereas now, without anything getting said to me, I know all the manager wants me to play, and I turn up to pre-season, I know to jump there, I’m to press there, but for this summer, my next pre-season will have a completely different message.

“It’s going to be strange, but I think I like the idea of a new challenge for the team, the players and the club. The new manager is going to come in and change the way we play, and it’ll be a different culture and different messages.

“But as long as the mentality to win, the eagerness to win and the internal pressure within ourselves and the demand to win things and be in a title race next season, no matter who the manager is, then we’ll be fine. That’s what we expect from ourselves.

“Of course the results might not go our way, but as long as the mentality is there, not that it doesn’t matter who the manager is but as long as the dressing room has got the desire that we’re going to win and we’re trying to win things, it’s not a transition season, the manager comes in and within his style of play is that winning mentality - that’s how the transition needs to happen.”

Alexander-Arnold made his return from injury in on Sunday, making his first appearance since February 10. The result leaves Liverpool two points behind Manchester City with six games to go in the title race.

And the England international added: “I think Klopp leaving at the end of the season will feed into the title run-in. The fear that it gets to May and it’s still tight, then it’ll feed into how it’s going to look and how it could feel up until then.

“We just need to try and stay composed. The manager never says we’re trying to win the league, he doesn’t speak about it, but it’s more that we’re going to get the most out of ourselves, we’re going to squeeze every drop of potential there.

“There will be twists and turns no matter what, and I’m sure teams will try and win it, and we’ll come close to winning every single game between now and the end of the season, and we just hope we’re in the best position at the end of the season.”
