A worker was killed in Sheung Shui on Monday after a large water pipe struck him on the head, police said. Officers said the man was injured at around 10am near Man Kok Village. He was taken to North District Hospital where he was certified dead. The force said it has classified the case as an industrial accident. The Labour Department said officers were sent to the scene to investigate what happened. The Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims said it was saddened by the death, adding that it understood the man was an outsourced worker at a storage site under the Drainage Services Department.
