Call the Midwife 2024 Christmas Special: Official trailer

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Call the Midwife.

For the first time in its history, Call the Midwife's Christmas special will be a double feature.

The beloved BBC series is set to return for its 14th season next year but before that, fans can look forward to a festive treat at Nonnatus House.

This year, viewers will be treated to not one but two Christmas episodes, scheduled for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, instead of the usual 90-minute special.

As anticipation builds for the return of Call the Midwife, here's a rundown of who will be gracing our screens for the holiday episodes.

Call the Midwife Christmas special cast

Trixie Aylward - Helen George

Season 13 left us hanging as Trixie Aylward announced her plans to relocate to New York with her husband but will she really bid farewell to Poplar?

In the Christmas special, Trixie, brought to life by Helen George, will make a "fleeting visit" to Nonnatus House.

Beyond the show, George showcased her dancing skills in the 2015 series of Strictly Come Dancing, finishing sixth with partner Aljaz Skorjanec.

Fred Buckle - Cliff Parisi

The Call the Midwife trailer features Fred Buckle, played by Cliff Parisi, donning a Santa Claus outfit as he brings cheer to sick children in hospital.

Before his stint on the 1960s-themed series, actor Cliff Parisi was renowned for his role as Minty in the legendary BBC soap EastEnders.

Joyce Highland - Renee Bailey

Renee Bailey, who has appeared in several shorts and shows like Rebel Cheer Squad and Mood, will reprise her role as the newly qualified nurse and Season 13 newcomer, Joyce Highland.

Nancy Corrigan - Megan Cusack

According to the BBC synopsis, "Romance is on the cards" for Nancy Corrigan, as she is spotted getting cosy with a man named Roger. Could this be the beginning of a new love story for Nancy as Christmas approaches?

Miss Higgins - Georgie Glen

Georgie Glen, known for her roles as history teacher Audrey McFall in BBC's Waterloo Road, Ridley, Damned and Netflix's Behind Her Eyes, will return as Miss Higgins, who is expecting her grandson Harry for Christmas.
