Death in Paradise fans were left heartbroken when Dwayne Myers, portrayed by Danny John-Jules, waved goodbye to the sandy shores of Saint Marie. But sparks flew as Danny chatted with the show's first lead investigator Ben Miller, taking a jovial dig at past co-stars and dishing the dirt on the real behind-the-scenes antics during an engaging sit-down.

Filming on the Caribbean isle of Guadeloupe brought more than just sea and sun for the BBC hit as it could crank up the heat between colleagues too.

Danny shed light on simmering tensions, saying: "Everybody just wanted to get home! I'm serious... It's not easy... pretty much anything can happen at any day because you've got 100 people in pretty much desert conditions."

Drawing an intense comparison, he mused, "You think 100 men in an army in the Second World War all bogged down in some deserts somewhere, sitting around, doing menial work, you think those guys are going to be singing and Morris Dancing? ".

"They're going to be at each other's throats! " he revealed.

Miller chimed in, recalling how naivety about hurricane season added to the drama: "It's not just the desert conditions as well, sometimes when hurricane season started, we were all green about how it was going to be, and we were all just thinking, 'Oh it's a bit of rain, grow up! '".

Sharing a particularly harrowing incident, Ben recounted, "We were filming on the beach... and the locals were talking and pointing at the top of the mountain, and we became aware that they were all leaving! ".

They relayed a dire warning: "They said, 'In about 20 minutes, that's going to come down the hill and then this is going to be a river.'".

"If we don't go now, we're not going to get home,'" he said.

"We were all very British about it saying, 'It's a bit of rain, we'll be fine,' 20 minutes later this river picked up the grip truck and washed it down to the sea! ".

"I remember seeing a chicken floating past in the middle of the rain! " revealed Ben at EM-Con Nottingham, shedding light on the dramatic moments they faced.

Discussing his departure from the hit series at the convention, Ben spoke candidly, "It was a great ending, it's funny, it's hard to move on from shows especially when they're really good and they do really well."

He added with reflection, "But I think it's one of those things that you have to do for the show as much as for you."

Concluding his thoughts, he shared, "I did feel that leaving would give the show the best chance of continuing to flourish."

Further remarking on his former role, he admitted, "Then you watch the show and you think, 'God, it really looks like fun out there.'".

Sharing details about the character arcs, Richard was despatched to uncover the mystery behind his predecessor's demise while, after an impressive seven-year tenure, Dwayne bid adieu to Saint Marie to sail the globe with his long-lost father Nelson Myers.
