Saturday Kitchen: Matt 'in trouble' after making blunder

There were gasps from the guests on this morning's episode of Saturday Kitchen (September 21) as a blunder from host Matt Tebbutt nearly saw a guest chef's dish ruined.

Irish cook Anna Haugh was appearing on the BBC show to promote her new cookbook, and had begun preparing a pork dish for the panel with the assistance of Matt.

She was joined on the episode by regular wine expert Olly Smith alongside author Richard Osman and writer Sophie Wyburd, who remained seated while she prepared the meal.

While the pair were initially working well together in the kitchen, the pair clashed after Matt picked up a pan of marmalade, stirred it and went to pour the contents over the perfectly presented mashed potatoes that were already plated up.

In the nick of time, and moments before the substance hit the plates, Anna spotted what was about to happen.

She exclaimed "No, no, no!" and inserted herself and her intended dresssing for the potatoes between Matt and his pan. The tense moment caused Matt to jump back still holding the kitchen utensil as gasps from Olly, Richard and Sophie echoed around the studio.

"Oh Matt!" said Olly, as Anna interjected: "You're in trouble," before adding with a hint of sarcasm, "You know what Matt? It's a joy to cook with you because my heart is always racing."

Her remarks prompted laughs from the show's guets and Matt himself as Anna swiftly changed the subject and demanded the marmalade now be dished up. "Good man," she said. "Just a little bit."

"Happy?" Matt asked Anna as the finishing touches were added to the meal. "Yep, very happy," Anna replied as she jumped over to Matt, reassuring him the roasted pork chop dish was finally ready to serve.

Saturday Kitchen is available to watch on BBC One and iPlayer on Saturdays from 10am
